Several years ago, we began having our weekly meetings at the noon hour on campus to attract more commuters. This year, we had to rethink the whole idea of squeezing in a meeting in the middle of the day on campus as the school began charging us for use of the room. Even though we haven’t still been recognized as an official club on campus, we can use the room. We just have to pay several hundred dollars for it per week.
Several churches in the area contributed to our room rentals last quarter, but this quarter the students and staff decided it was time to meet at night at a nearby local church.
We’ve already been doing weekly late night events on Thursdays at Pomona First Baptist for years now. Everything from the ubiquitous board game night, to prayer night, to the popular nod-to-the-nineties “Neon Jazzercise” night. (Yes we have a student who teaches jazzercise! And you’d be surprised at how many students have neon and spandex in their wardrobes.)
So the move to a night meeting is something the students are looking forward to doing. There will be more time for singing, skits, talks, and fellowship. They are even organizing a new meeting to take place after the new night Weekly Meeting, called Afters. That’s how much they like spending time together.
For those in the dorms who don’t have their own cars, the students are using social media to organize rides on WeJoinIn.com . Gone are the days of the old pass around the clipboard!
Epic is also changing to a night meeting and will be meeting at another local church that has graciously opened their doors to us. Epic students are just as excited as Cru students about the change and the new possibilities.
Please keep these students in prayer as they organize and lead in this transition.
